When you reckon of Naivedya on Ganesh Chaturthi, the first thought that comes to mind is a Modak. Lord Ganesha’s favorite food is a sweet preparation that resembles a white dumpling. There are several stories about why Lord Ganesha likes Modak.
Modaks presented with a sprinkle of ghee are a must-have during Ganesh Chaturthi festivities. Ganpati Bappa, as per Hindu legend, loved desserts, and modaks were one of his favorites. It is how he earned the nickname Modakpriya, which means “lover of modak.”
Lord Shiva once paid Anusuya a tour at her woodland abode. He was seated next to little Ganapati. Lord Shiva was hungry and demanded that food get given right now. Anusuya, on the other hand, stated that he would have to wait until Bal Ganesha got offered food first.
Lord Ganesha joyfully ate all that got put in front of him, but his thirst was unquenchable. Even his mother, Goddess Parvati, was taken aback by her little son’s voracious appetite.
Anusuya offered Lord Shiva a single piece of delicious food since she knew he would be hungry owing to Ganpati’s hunger. Ganpati burped loudly after eating this, signaling that his tummy was finally complete.
Goddess Parvati was interested as to what Anusuya had offered Bal Ganesha as a sweetened food item. When Goddess Parvati realized it was a modak, she conveyed her request that Lord Ganpati’s followers always present modaks to him, and this desire has been honored for decades.
Despite the passage of time, this ceremony continues to get performed. However, there are several varieties of modaks that are cooked for Ganesh Chaturthi nowadays. Without further ado, here are several new kinds of modaks along with some traditional ones that get offered on Ganesh Chaturthi.
